The Origins
In 1894, Elizabeth Johns opened a grocery store in her front room in St Ives, Cornwall. Her husband, a fisherman, had drowned at sea and she was now the sole provider for her five children. Fortunately, the shop was successful, and over the years it passed through the generations, each proprietor adding their own spin to the business.
Fast forward 120 years and the store passes down to Elizabeth's great, great grandchildren - Tom and Sam Hanson. They transform the shop into a specialist alcohol retailer with hundreds of gins, whiskies and rums. In 2021, after spotting a gap in the market, they launch Crusty Juggler - Cornwall's first Black Spiced rum...

Our Ethos
We're Cornish born and bred. Which is why we choose to work with two exceptional local organisations: Surfers Against Sewage and The Cornish Pirates Rugby Team.

Surfers Against Sewage
Surfers Against Sewage are the voice of the ocean. This fantastic Cornish charity has been campaigning for decades for an end to sewage pollution in oceans, lakes and rivers throughout the UK. Together with thousands of volunteers, they work tirelessly to ensure cleaner bathing waters for us, and better living conditions for UK marine life.

Rum & Rugby
What better fit than Rum and Cornish Pirates?! As massive rugby fans, we couldn't miss the opportunity to support Cornwall's premier rugby team - The Cornish Pirates. Currently playing in the Championship - the second tier of English Rugby - the Pirates have ambitions to reach the Premiership some day, something that would be a huge boost for the local economy. Look out for Crusty Juggler on the bar in the hospitality marquee on match days!
